There is only one file type that uses the .TRIF extension:
Tiled Raster Interchange Format
Bitmap image file created in the TRIF format, which was designed by the Tiling Task Group (TTG) and sponsored by the National Bureau of Standards in 1987; supports bitonal images that are tiled with fixed-size squares.
TRIF files are used for exchanging large engineering drawings in a black and white raster format.
