A VCD file is a disc image of a CD or DVD and is recognized by Windows as an actual disc, even though the data is on the hard drive. VCD files allow CDs and DVDs to be used without requiring physical drives and is useful for mounting discs on network computers.
If you receive a VCD file, you can open it with select CD and DVD burning and ripping programs, such as H+H Software Virtual CD, Roxio Popcorn, Roxio Toast, and Roxio Creator NXT Pro. VCD files can also be played with the free MPlayer.
