There are 3 file types use the .WLX file extension:
2. Windows Live Mesh Sync File
Temporary file created by Live Mesh, a Microsoft application used for synchronizing files between computers, Windows Live SkyDrives, and other storage locations; marks a file that still has to be downloaded from a remote storage location to the local storage location; acts as a placeholder until the actual file is downloaded.
WLX filenames are created by appending the ".wlx" suffix to the files that need to be synchronized. For example, if myimage.png needs to be synchronized from a remote location, Live Mesh creates a temporary file named myimage.png.wlx in the local directory. When synchronization is complete (when the file is downloaded), Live Mesh removes the WLX file.
NOTE: Live Mesh was discontinued in 2013 and is now Microsoft OneDrive.

3. WinList Analysis Protocol File
Analysis protocol file used by WinList, a flow cytometry analysis program; contains a complete description of the flow cytometry analysis setup that the user has created; includes screen, gates, regions, and palette setup information.
A protocol enables you to save a setup of your analysis, which allows you to close and open a setup to resume your work.
NOTE: When you need to transfer WLX files, WinList lets you create protocol bundles that use the .WLB file extension and store WLX files in a Zip-compatible format.
