1. Bitdefender Plugin File
File used by Bitdefender antivirus and Internet protection software; saves file signature information that helps the software recognize threats for common file exploitations, such as .ZIP and .RAR.

2. ExamSoft Answer File
Answer file used by ExamSoft, an online assessment-management program; contains answers from an exam administered through ExamSoft.
The XMD file is created by SofTest, an ExamSoft application for Windows and OS X. When completing an exam using SofTest, an XMD file is generated to contain the answers.
ExamSoft is an online tool that allows you to control the entire testing process. It enables you to create exams, and provides delivery, scoring, administration, and analysis features. It is commonly used in the K-12, undergrad, nursing, medical, pharmacy, law, and dental fields of study.
NOTE: The XMD file was replaced by the .XMDX file format.

3. Extended Media Disc Image
Disc image file originally created by GameJack, a program used for backing up games on CDs and DVDs; contains an exact copy of the raw data on the disc and enables exact copies of discs to be made; also supports label making and disc protection scanning options.
GameJack was been replaced by Engelmann Media 5-Star GameCopy. The XMD format is now supported by other disc imaging software such as Engelmann CDRWIN and H+H Software's Virtual CD software.
