2. Software Overview
ActiveState Komodo Edit is an open source, cross-platform application used to edit source code. It is designed as a counterpart to ActiveState's Komodo IDE.
The code editor supports multiple languages, including Perl, Ruby, PHP, Python, SQL, CSS, HTML, and XML. Komodo Edit provides some helpful features, which includes code folding, block editing, snippets, and macros. The editor comes with smart language detection, which detects multiple languages in a file and checks and highlights syntax. Komodo Edit provides a split view of generated HTML that updates whenever you make a change to the Markdown text.
The editor tracks changes you make to the code, allowing you to see unsaved changes and revert changes. Komodo Edit is highly customizable, too. You can choose from over 100 extensions to install additional functionality to the editor and customize the theme of the UI.
Komodo Edit was developed as a companion piece to Komodo IDE but provides features that make it more valuable than just a complementary program. It features an array of helpful programming features and allows you to mold it into what you need through add-ons and a customizable UI. ActiveState Komodo Edit is packed with features that makes it a worthwhile text editor for programmers looking for a different tool.
