2. Software Overview

Google Picasa is an application that allows users to organize, edit, and share their photos and videos. It is available for Windows and OS X but is now discontinued as it was replaced by Google Photos.

Picasa allows users to organize their images on their computer and import photos from their cameras or scanners. Users can sort their images into folders and search them by date, faces, name tags, and places (through geotagging). The application enables users to conveniently share their images through email, printing, or exporting them to a folder on their computer. Users are also able to sync their images directly from Picasa to Google+ Photos on the web.

Along with helpful organization and sharing capabilities, Picasa provides users with essential tools, such as the ability to crop, straighten, rotate, retouch, and remove redeye in photos. The editor also includes more advanced editing effects, such as duo-tone, borders, vignette, sepia, soft focus, color inverting, and saturation. As a safety net, Picasa even lets you revert back to your original image if you are unsatisfied with your edits.

Google Picasa is a handy program for organizing, editing, and sharing images. While it does not provide professional editing tools, it’s a convenient application for casual users, especially ones who use Google+, that want to share their photos.
