2. Software Overview
MuseScore is a program used to create, play, and print sheet music. It is available for Windows, OS X, and Linux.
MuseScore provides a set of tools that allows you to create a variety of scores, such as lead sheets, choral music, piano music, and orchestra arrangements. You can start from scratch and select your instruments manually or you can begin with a template set up for common score types. The program enables you to enter notes, rests, ties, accidentals, and more through a computer keyboard, mouse, or MIDI keyboard. The application also allows you to import MusicXML, MIDI, Cap3, and ABC musical notation formats.
MuseScore supports a large amount of musical markings, such as slurs, tempo markings, articulations, dynamics, segnos and codas, octave, and rehearsal marks. The program intelligently lays out your score but you have the ability to override it by dragging elements to the location you want them. Once you are finished, MuseScore lets you upload your score directly to its score sharing site. You can also export your score to a variety of formats, including PDF, PNG, Ogg, and WAV.
