2. Software Overview

vhf interservice Cenon is a collection of open source applications used for vector graphics design and desktop publishing. It is available for OS X and Linux.

Cenon can be used for converting vector graphics, vector design, and publishing. The software allows you to import and edit a variety of graphics formats including DXF, SVG, Adobe Illustrator, Gerber, HPGL, JPEG, TIFF, PNG, and PostScript. Cenon provides an array of editing functions for lines, arcs, curves, text, threads, poly-lines, and complex paths.

Cenon supports modules, such as CAM and Astro, that act as plugins that provide additional functionality. The CAM module, which must be purchased, transforms Cenon into a tool for manufacturing on CNC machines such as milling machines, routers, engraving machines, tool-plotters, cutting-plotters, and pen-plotters. The Astro module provides astrology mapping and charting tools.

Cenon was first released in the early 1990s and has come along way in its capabilities. It is used for a variety of purposes such as creating brochures, business cards, banners, and logos. Its capabilities can also be extended through the CAM and Astro modules. vhf interservice Cenon is useful free software, however, there are much more capable applications available for vector graphics design and desktop publishing if you are willing to spend some money.
